  Benefits of being a Dub as a child

  i can't think of many benefits of growing up a a dub but i do remember that i always viewed the other dub kids as brorthers and sisters and they became my support system amongst the "worldly people".

  i remember going into a new neighhood or a new school and knowing that once i met the dub kids there, i would automatically have friends and i would not be alone.. this was especially comforting to me because i was an only child, and many times i entered into a new school not knowing anyone and sometimes being the only black kid in the class, my dub peers made me feel welcome and accepted me into the circle immediately.. for many years i feel special to be part of this worldwide brotherhood, and i am sure it is the reason why now i am inafriad of changes and/or new surroundings.. did you have similar experiences?.

  Benifits of being raised as a JW? Well, I suppose that I could say that my parents were overprotective and that sheltered me from a lot of bad things that I could have gotten wrapped up in.

  But as far as finding friends is concerned....I was the only JW in the entire school system. I had zero support untill about my Junior year. That's when I went to a vocational school (also because the WBTS recomments learning skilled trades rather than persuing additional education) and there were several school districts merging into one facility. There were many more JW around there. It was certainly a unique situation, that for sure. It was immediate acceptance at first but didnt take long for cliques to form and for some to try to dig up dirt on others.

  I think it's just a catch phrase used to pretend there actually is such a being and that he cares about the dubs and what they are doing.

  What's the most controversial thing you ever did in Kingdom Hall?

  i remember scanning real money and with photoshop pasting the picture of an elder on the bill over the face of the queen.

  then i printed many bills.

  it looked very real.

  Hubby is still hanging on to the suits and hope, but his heart is no longer in it.

  Us UBM's are in for the long haul. Rebound was gonna happen.

  Well it's probably a good thing that he keeps one or two of his suits. You never know when you're going to have to go on a job interview or attend a funerial, providing he doesn't put on or loose a lot of weight. LOL Sorry for my ignorance but please, explain UBM's?

  Skirting the issue

  what argument is put forth that women must only wear dresses or skirts to the meetings or in service and are not permitted to wear slacks?

  where does it say it's wrong for sisters to wear pants, and how are they convincing women in 2005 to buy into this?

  i remember many bitterly cold chicago mornings with frozen legs running to doors and back to the warm car as quickly as possible, wearing a skirt which was ridiculous and inappropriate to the weather conditions.

  I don't think it's just a bunch of crotchety old men forcing their outdated views upon hapless women. In some cases, yes, but like I said before, must JW women seem to conform to this aspect of the JW code without reservation.

  Kudos to DanTheMan for posting on a predominately female topic and holding his ground when the backlash hits. Dan your a better man than I.

  The benefit of JWD

  i know i have made comments about the benefits of jwd but i have some thoughts about this.. for the person who is having doubts and is looking for some confirmation or information jwd provides a wealth of both.

  and if it isn't posted here on the board someone usually has a link to answer questions.

  for those who have been hurt by the shunning policy or been abused in some way jwd offers wonderful people who understand because they have "been there" too.. for those who are recently out of the wts and are trying to build a new life there are many to encourage and support them.. even those of us who have been here and out of the wts for a long time there is encouragement and friendship.. for those who love a good debate, there is usually a willing jw to try to take them on.. there are some great sites on the internet that provide information.

  Nice post LadyLee. The thing that really keeps me comming back is fact that the majority of the posters here are all ex-cult members. No one that hasn't been on the "inside" can really appreciate what that feels like. Most people here have experienced it first hand and are extremely supportive as well as friendly. Not to mention that it's lots of fun.

  Crumpet and bull01Lay....we are cut from the same cloth. The most controversial thing that Ive ever done in a KH, like yourselves, was to gratify myself in the KH toilet room. Hey, as an adolescent young man I masturbated just about any where that I spent a lot of time and just as most JW's I spent a lot of time in the KH.

  Seker4, your talks sounded interesting. I wish that I could have been present for them. Im sure that they would have done me much more good than the one attended at my hall.

  Kwin, although I agree that buying drugs at your assembly is indeed controversial, IMHO it pales in comparison to the letter you sent to all of your "brothers and sisters" before your exit. You rock dude.

  Gmahler, your CSPAN comment made me laugh out loud. Why am I not supprised that some up tight anal rentintive JW would have taken offence?

  atypical, these are all very good question. I personally have no clue how to answer any of them. I've been out for so long now that I have no idea how the rank and file JW rationalizes these concepts. I'll be watching the thread to see how others reply.
